Skidoo Ultimate drop contest

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Congrats to Justin House for winning the Ultimate drop contest. Skidoo announced the contest about 2 months ago. To enter you needed to post a video and profile of yourself to skidoo.com. The 4 finalist were flown to florida to present there videos and bios to all the dealers and finally to be voted on at the awards ceremony. The winner is being flown to Montana to ride with me on the new freeride next weekend and then given a Freeride for the coming season.

New Skidoos for 2011

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Just got home from the BRP Dealer confrence in Orlando Florida of all places. It was maybe a little bit too much fun with a bit of partying to go along with meetings. It was held in a conference center/hotel with Aligators in the court yard.

It was great to talk to many people in the company that are really excited about the mountain/freeride segment of the brand.

They’re even going as far as to release a sled called the Freeride that is set up the way all us mountain riders want a sled. Even the new tundra looks like a fun sled to play in the trees. If only there were sleds like this when I was a kid.

Rutherford

Had a great day up the Rutherford today with Bryn Hughes. Ski and sled but mainly skiing. Too tired to write anymore so here’s some pics.

Olympics

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

I think most people, like myself, were dreading the mayhem of the Olympics. So far it has been amazingly quite. Over the past 2 days 35cms has fallen and when the peak chair on Whistler opened today there were no more than 15 people in line. The snow was great and it was ski on lifts all day long and the early apres shift at the GLC was dead as well. Where is everyone that we were scared of. Not sure but I sure hope they stay where they are.

Lone Goat Cabin

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Just spent a couple days in a cabin that is about 50kms by snowmobile from Pemberton. The weather was amazing, -5 and sunny. The night were even nicer with the Alpine lit up by millions of stars. I was joined by Photographer Bryn Hughes and Marty Crowell. The sledding and skiing was great even though it hasn’t snowed in a couple weeks. Evenings were full of redneck games such as falling trees and skidding them out by sled. Lighting them on fire so you could see and buckin them up for fire wood.

Olympic countdown

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Well the Olympics are almost here. In Whistler it feels more like early season 15 years ago with no one around. Except the police that is. I honestly think that there are more cops in town right now than residents. I’m not a huge fan of the Olympics, but we are hosting them so why not embrace it and have some fun. I find it sad that when watching the morning news it is only filled with the negative parts of the Olympics. Sure it’s not hard to find negative with the ridiculous over spending. But what the hell at least we’re not spending it fighting for oil!!  Today was a bluebird day on the Rutherford Glacier. At the end of the day you could hear a heli coming up the valley and when it saw us it banked in for a closer look. everyone was joking about the military coming to try and shut us down. Instead when the bird buzzed 50 feet from our heads a guy in full combat uniform hung out the door and gave us a banger solute. YA Canada!!

powder awards

powder awards

Just got home from a great time at winter X. the snowmobile big air and Freestyle was off the hook. Out of 8 competitors in the big air super final, there were 6 new tricks thrown. Thacker even rigid up a remote throttle so he could flip his sled without touching the bars from take off to landing. The powder awards were going on at the same time and Eric berger and I were awarded the photo of the year. Getting the photo of the year was a highlight in my career when I first received it in 2004. To get it again is an amazing honor. The topping on the cake was meeting Warren Miller for the first time. He gave a speech telling the new school skiers to pick up there pants.
