Back in Whistler
March 9th, 2010
I’m back home in Whistler and the season just keeps on rolling. I haven’t had a bad day yet this season at home. The snow has always been good somewhere close by in the coast range. It wasn’t supposed to be clear and after a 12hr travel day from Montana I was feeling like having a bit of a down day. By 11 am the clouds started to break and the sun shone thru. With almost a foot of fresh in the past 24hrs I figured I should be skiing.
In the past few years I’ve pretty much given up shooting on Whistler mt as the crowds are growing and the good skiers multiplying. With the Olympics this year the place is a bit of a ghost town so I called Eric Berger and we went and hit the mountain. Good snow, sun and no crowds. What more could you ask for.
West Yellowstone
March 8th, 2010
Had a great couple of days at West Yellowstone Montana. The town is a cool old place that looks a bit like a hollywood set of the old west. The town is pro snowmobile as they don’t plow the streets and allow snowmobiles to be driven almost everywhere in town. The reason I was there was to ride with the 4 finalists from Skidoos ultimate drop contest. We had a great day of riding the 2011’s and to all the service guys surprise, we even brought them all back in one piece.
The new Freeeride and backcountry renegade were the sleds I rode the most. The suspension is incredible and the power and throttle response of the new 800 etech is all time. The snow was pretty beat but with some traveling we found some good pockets that still held good snow. But what made the day was the crew of 12 of us rallying and trying to out do each other. Make sure to check out the new freeride as it’s only available in the spring check line up.
March Madness
March 4th, 2010The past few days have been a great surprise. Freezing levels went thru the roof last sunday and it looked like we were done for a while with good snow. In fact I was in Florida last week and it was colder than Vancouver when I flew in. Somehow the levels came down in time for some great snow to accumulate before it cleared up. Had a couple wicked days of shooting for slednecks with Geoff Kyle.
Ya Canada
March 1st, 2010
The Olympics have come and gone. It’s been a blast hanging around Whistler/Vancouver. I didn’t get a chance to see as much as I wanted but I managed to get to the Cnd/USA preliminary hockey as well as mens bobsled finals.
We as Canadians can be proud of how well everything went. From winning 14 gold medals to everyone displaying our patriotism along side all other countries. Whistler is now open for business with parking and no more road closers so if you want to get some of the best skiing/sledding with the least people around for the next 100 years. Get up here.
Skidoo Ultimate drop contest
February 27th, 2010Congrats to Justin House for winning the Ultimate drop contest. Skidoo announced the contest about 2 months ago. To enter you needed to post a video and profile of yourself to skidoo.com. The 4 finalist were flown to florida to present there videos and bios to all the dealers and finally to be voted on at the awards ceremony. The winner is being flown to Montana to ride with me on the new freeride next weekend and then given a Freeride for the coming season.
New Skidoos for 2011
February 27th, 2010Just got home from the BRP Dealer confrence in Orlando Florida of all places. It was maybe a little bit too much fun with a bit of partying to go along with meetings. It was held in a conference center/hotel with Aligators in the court yard.
It was great to talk to many people in the company that are really excited about the mountain/freeride segment of the brand.
They’re even going as far as to release a sled called the Freeride that is set up the way all us mountain riders want a sled. Even the new tundra looks like a fun sled to play in the trees. If only there were sleds like this when I was a kid.
Rutherford
February 17th, 2010
Had a great day up the Rutherford today with Bryn Hughes. Ski and sled but mainly skiing. Too tired to write anymore so here’s some pics.
Olympics
February 13th, 2010I think most people, like myself, were dreading the mayhem of the Olympics. So far it has been amazingly quite. Over the past 2 days 35cms has fallen and when the peak chair on Whistler opened today there were no more than 15 people in line. The snow was great and it was ski on lifts all day long and the early apres shift at the GLC was dead as well. Where is everyone that we were scared of. Not sure but I sure hope they stay where they are.
Lone Goat Cabin
February 10th, 2010
Just spent a couple days in a cabin that is about 50kms by snowmobile from Pemberton. The weather was amazing, -5 and sunny. The night were even nicer with the Alpine lit up by millions of stars. I was joined by Photographer Bryn Hughes and Marty Crowell.
The sledding and skiing was great even though it hasn’t snowed in a couple weeks. Evenings were full of redneck games such as falling trees and skidding them out by sled. Lighting them on fire so you could see and buckin them up for fire wood.
